Section 175.01 – Purpose

The purpose of this chapter is to promote and protect the public health, safety, and general welfare by providing for the regulation of the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees, shrubs, and other plants within the City of Portsmouth, Ohio. (Ord. 1-1998. Passed 1-12-1998)

Section 175.02 – Authority and Power

a) There is hereby created and established a City Tree Commission for the City of Portsmouth, Ohio, which shall consist of nine members: the Director of Public Service, the City Forester designate, one member of City Council or their designee, and six citizens and resident of the City, who shall be appointed and approved by the City Council. Commission members shall serve without compensation, but all necessary expense shall be paid by appropriate Council action. (Ord. 2014-38. Passed 9-22-14)

b) The Commission shall advise the City on all matters pertaining to tree and landscape planning, maintenance, and development in the City of Portsmouth.

c) Removals of a City Tree Commission member will be by the majority consent of the board members with consent of City Council. Reasons for removal may include: conflict of interest, lack of meeting attendance or participation. (Ord. 1-1998. Passed 1-12-1998)
